As time passed, the world around us began to change. The winds of
war were blowing across Anatolia. Life, which was already difficult,
became a daily struggle for survival. Food was scarce, and the news
from the battlefields brought tears to every home. As a teacher, my
duty was no longer just to teach grammar; it was to give hope to
children whose fathers and brothers were far away, fighting for our
independence.
During these dark years, I stayed in a small town in the west. I
worked day and night, helping the families and organizing the school
as a small hospital. My youthful energy was replaced by a deep, quiet
strength. I was no longer the "Çalıkuşu" of Istanbul; I was a soldier
of education.
