The quiet life I led in Kuşadası with Hayrullah Bey was
coming to an inevitable end. His health had been declining
for months, and he knew his time was short. Despite his
physical weakness, his mind remained sharp and focused on
one goal: my happiness. He spent his final days writing a
thick diary and preparing a package, which he made me
promise to deliver to my aunt in Istanbul.
"Feride," he whispered during one of our last conversations,
"you have spent years running away from a ghost. But a
person cannot find peace by hiding. You must face your past
to embrace your future."
