The Wren:Chapter 2.1-Behlül

During the long summer holidays, the suffocating atmosphere of
the boarding school was replaced by the fresh air of my aunt
Besime’s magnificent mansion in Istanbul. Those days were filled
with endless sunshine, laughter, and the scent of blooming
jasmine. My aunt was a compassionate woman who treated me
like her own daughter, and her children, Necmiye and Kâmuran,
were my closest companions.
While Necmiye was a quiet and reserved girl, Kâmuran was quite
different. He was older than me, remarkably handsome, and
possessed a serious personality. He had recently returned from
Europe, where he had completed his studies, and he spoke French
with perfect elegance. To me, he was like a character from a
sophisticated novel. Even though I was still a "Çalıkuşu"—
spending my time climbing the highest branches of the acacia trees
and playing mischievous jokes—I began to feel a strange
transformation within myself whenever he was around.
