The Wren:Chapter 4.1-Emir
Leaving Istanbul was not just a physical journey; it was a total
transformation of my soul. I was no longer the "Çalıkuşu" who
played jokes in the garden. I was now a woman with a
purpose. After a long and exhausting trip by train and carriage,
I arrived at my first destination: Zeyniler Village.
The village was hidden deep in the mountains. It was nothing
like the elegant world of Istanbul. The houses were made of
mud and stone, and the roads were dusty. The local people
looked at me with curiosity and a bit of suspicion. A young,
modern teacher from the city was a stranger to them.
The school was in a terrible condition. The roof was leaking,
the windows were broken, and there were no books. However,
when I looked into the eyes of the children, I forgot my own
sadness. Their eyes were shining with a hunger for knowledge.
"Good morning, children," I said on my first day. My voice
trembled slightly, but I stood tall. "My name is Feride. I am
here to teach you how to read, write, and dream."
