My heart ached. I looked at this innocent soul and realized
that we were both lonely travelers in this world. I didn't want
to be just her teacher anymore. I wanted to be her family.
"No, Munise," I promised, holding her hands tightly. "I will
never leave you. From now on, you are my daughter."
Adopting Munise changed everything. She moved into my
small house, and we created our own little world. We studied
together, cooked simple meals, and told stories about the
stars. My life in the elite circles of Istanbul felt like a distant,
faded photograph. In this poor village, with a child who
called me 'Mother,' I finally understood the true meaning of
love and responsibility.
